March 15, 2019 and November 2, 2021 will forever be etched in my heart! DW Never Too Old's (Nevi's) long awaited birthday and her way too soon death day. I will always miss her terribly, but I will always be very grateful for our time together. I love you and still very much miss you Nevi! Please enjoy her life video shown below .
Another year has ended and another begins in our journey. 2022 was much brighter for us. Smokey returned to the show arena winning a Grand Championship in his first show in stock halter (he only attended 3 shows last year)! Then he managed to earn the Reserve Champion National All Star for the western stock halter stallion under division!!! He's now a coming 3 year old and will be dipping his hooves into the driving game this year! More excitement to come, we hope!
Our newer miniature show gelding, IGF Crown Royal (aka Spirit) and I began our showing adventures together in 2022 also! His first season ever showing (he's 4 years old) and my first season showing miniature horses AND going to the shows on my own! We participated in western stock halter and in western driving classes. We managed a few decent placings in the driving (still room for improvement there), however stock halter seems to be a good thing for us! Spirit earned 2 Grand Champions at his first 2 shows, then earned the Reserve Champion National All Star award for solid color stallions and geldings under division AND we tied for 4th place in the Amateur All Star stock halter under division (which included all sexes of horses)!! OK, I guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks (me, not Spirit)! I've never shown stock halter until last year, but I enjoyed it. We're looking forward to showing together again this season.
2022 also saw us welcome a new Arabian mare to our family, GA Veronaka (DA Valentino x GA Bey Aneversare, a Bey Shah daughter). We are looking forward to having some foals from Veronaka over the next several years. She's a sweet, sweet mare and a BIG mare (standing 16 hands barefoot!!).
We also welcomed a new half arabian show horse, WC El Dorado (aka Eli) to the family. He is now a 4 year old and will be starting his arabian show career this year. He's a half arabian and half quarter horse, who is also a very sweet, very tall boy. He spent 2022 getting acclimated to the training barn, then getting started under saddle in the summer and finished the year doing some local shows to learn what it's all about. We couldn't ask for a more receptive, calm or pleasant horse to take a show journey with!
This spring we will see 2 foals come. The first will be our miniature mare, Brookhaven Eagles Witchy Woman (bred to Zinga) due in mid-March, then our saddlebred mare DW Gold Bourbon Pearl (bred to the national champion arabian sport horse, VMA Khahpur Khopi) due in late March. We are looking forward to both of these foals!! Both should be outstanding show horses, given their pedigrees and their parents.
Currently (January 2023) we are sold out of GOS pigs. We will have more for sale in April. We do have a yearling miniature show filly available. See her under the 'Sales List' page.
Happy New Year to all and may 2023 bring you the realization of your dreams!
Winter of 2021-2022
2021 saw 2 of our youngsters make their show ring debuts.....our yearling mini colt Smokey and our 2 year old arabian filly Nevi. Smokey only made it to one show in April, where he was named Reserve Grand Champion halter yearling colt! Then his trainers made a move to a different state and Smokey wasn't able to return to the show ring last year. He is now with a new trainer, Clinton Jury, and he again will see his first show of the year with Clinton in April. We look forward to them showing a few times this year together.
Nevi became partners with her trainer, Ed Lake. Nevi and Ed had an extremely good year. They made their debut in Sport Horse In-Hand halter classes in June of last year. They took 1st in their first class together and 2nd in their next class at that show! They went on to the East Coast Championships in August and again did very well. They were Top Five (4th in one class, missing reserve by just 0.3 points!) and they went Reserve Champions in their second class! Then on to Sport Horse Nationals in September! A show emergency with a helicopter coming in disrupted the class order and Nevi showed afterwards. She was a bit wound up to say the least and she ended up just missing a Top Ten award. Little did we know that would be her last class ever.
Nevi was having some odd, intermittent clumsiness that didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to it. Since she would have been started under saddle in the spring of 2022, her vet suggested having a neurological evaluation done at an equine hospital. This evaluation was performed under general anesthetic. At the end of the procedure, when she was being awoken, she had several severe seizures that ended with her having a massive heart attack and she passed away!
To say we are heart broken, is like saying a broken leg is just a scratch. Nevi embodied so many dreams and goals. The future for us on the arabian show circuit and in the breeding shed looks bleak without her. She will forever live in my heart!!!!
On a more positive note, our Gloucestershire Old Spot pig conservation breeding program continues on a solid foot. Our 2 sows and our boar are consistently producing not only wonderful pork, but also solid breeding quality piglets that are going on to have families of their own! We have 1 boarling piglet from our Dec 2021 litter still available and we are expecting our Blue Princess Ann litter in April of 2022.
We are also expecting 2 Belted Galloway calves this year again. Last year we had 2 bull calves born, 1 dun and 1 silver dun (double dilute). Hopefully we'll have a heifer born this year.
We are also looking forward to a miniature foal coming this spring of 2022! We haven't had any foals since 2019 and I've missed that very much! This foal will be Zinga's first baby and Lucy's second. I'm sure it's going to be a show quality foal with lots of color! Both parents are Hall of Fame award winners in driving and both parents are very colorful. I'm looking forward to April with much anticipation!
2021
We all know 2020 was a difficult and strange year for all. So we'll just leave that behind us and off this page!
In 2021 we are looking forward to life and showing returning to somewhat normal times for us all! Our arabian filly, Nevi, is now a 2 year old! She will be making her way to the trainer's this spring, to start enlarging her knowledge bank. Hopefully, she will like the extra attention and you may see her in a few Sport Horse In Hand classes this year! Our yearling miniature colt, Smokey, will also be making his way to the trainers and will start his show career in halter this coming year.
Our GOS pig preservation breeding program is going wonderfully! We have placed several very nice piglets into new breeding homes, while continuing to produce excellent quality pork. We are very happy with our GOS program!!!
Our Belted Galloway preservation program for dun colored cattle is also going well. 2020 did bring a new color test developed by UC Davis, that tests for the dun color in Belties now. We were one of the first farms to use their test and discovered that yes, we indeed did produce a silver dun (double dilute) heifer in 2020!! She will always produce a dun colored calf!!! She now lives in Oklahoma with her new family. We are looking forward to seeing her calves in the future!
